Education Leadership Institute (ELI): Progress Report

posted Feb-12-2010

ELI Background: With the need for highly qualified and strong leaders within physical therapy education particularly as the “boomer generation” of program directors retires, a Consultant Group on Education Leadership Institute was constructed. The Consultant Group conducted a Needs Assessment Survey in May 2008 to physical therapist and physical therapist assistant program directors and their faculties, Clinical Residency and Clinical Fellowship Directors and their faculties, and CAPTE Commissioners and CAPTE non-PT site visitors. A summary report was drafted based on the results of the survey and shared with leadership of the Education Section and AASIG and the APTA Board of Directors. As a result, a Steering Committee on Education Leadership (ELI) was constructed with representatives from the Education Section, AASIG, PTA SIG, original Consultant Group, and non-physical therapist with expertise in developing an ELI for another profession.
