Position Summary:

Whitworth University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program invites applications for an 11.5-month tenure or non-tenure track faculty position with a specialization in neurological rehabilitation. Applicant must demonstrate the relevance and ability to work collaboratively in course design, teach in interdisciplinary courses, and contribute to the development of a neurological residency.

Core Responsibilities

The role entails contributing to team instruction within one's areas of expertise and actively participating in the improvement of class materials and syllabi. Additionally, involvement in the development of a physical therapy neurological rehabilitation residency program is required. Maintaining a scholarly agenda to meet CAPTE requirements, advising and mentoring DPT students, participating in student supervision and patient treatment during clinical experiences, and fostering interprofessional education and collaboration are essential aspects of the position.

Participation in assessment activities and adherence to university protocols for feedback and academic advising is expected. Moreover, contributing to a collaborative faculty team dedicated to advancing physical therapist education, research, and practice aligning with the institution's mission and vision, as well as engaging in teaching, scholarship, university, and community service, including clinical mentoring within interprofessional programs, are key responsibilities. Regular office hours and commitment to continuous improvement are integral to the role.

Qualifications

  • Possess a physical therapy degree, clinical neurological rehabilitation expertise (ABPTS board certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy), and a terminal academic degree (PhD, DSc, DHS, EdD) completed or in progress.
  • Evidence of promise in effectiveness at college-level teaching (demonstrated effectiveness preferred).
  • Demonstrated equivalency of three years of teaching experience.
  • Eligible for Washington state PT licensure.
  • Strong potential for an ongoing stream of research in the candidate’s area of specialization.
