Understanding and Addressing Barriers Faced by Underrepresented Applicants Dr. Nicole Tombers, PT, DPT is an Associate Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN where she earned her bachelor's and DPT degrees. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy and practices part-time at Orthopedic Associates of Duluth. Her service includes membership on the MN APTA Education Committee, which plans the state’s annual physical therapy conference, review of APTA Combined Sections Meeting course proposals for the Academy of Education, and involvement in equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives within the St. Scholastica DPT program and across the College. Dr. Tombers’ research agenda centers on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in physical therapy education, with a particular focus on understanding and addressing barriers faced by underrepresented students. Her research has been published in a variety of peer reviewed journals, and presented in poster and platform presentations at state and national conferences.
The Admissions Network was created within the Academic Faculty SIG to foster discussion topics related to recruitment and holistic admissions in PT and PTA education.
