Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Faculty Position: Open Rank The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences (RMS) at the Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP) invites applications for a full-time faculty position from individuals with expertise in Cardiopulmonary physical therapy who are committed to excellence in physical therapy education, scholarship, and service. This person will have the opportunity to join a gifted and passionate faculty to guide the cardiopulmonary track of a recently revised innovative systems-based curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include overseeing a course series in cardiopulmonary physical therapy and collaborating with all faculty to assure that principles of cardiopulmonary function, pathology, and patient/client management are integrated across program courses.

This is a 12-month faculty position. Numerous opportunities exist for interprofessional teaching, scholarship, and service with the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program and the Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology Program, both housed within the Department. Additional opportunities exist with the six other departments in SHP. A well-established structure and series of learning activities exists with SHP and Rutgers University Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacology, Public Health, and Social Work. SHP is one of eight schools that comprise Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), one of the nation’s largest university-based centers for studying and improving human health and health care. As a RBHS Center for Rehabilitation Excellence, the Department of RMS is supported in being in the forefront of education in physical and occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, in service to underserved communities, and in conducting research to optimize patient care and outcomes.

Clinical practice and scholarship prospects exist through RWJ Barnabas Health, the largest and most comprehensive healthcare system in the state of New Jersey. Additionally, specific opportunities in NICU, acute care, and outpatient cardiopulmonary physical therapy exist at University Hospital and other local clinical sites including the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Close proximity to New York City provides numerous opportunities for professional networking and recreation in one of the most diverse regions of the country.

Qualified candidates will have a DPT degree and either have an academic doctoral degree or be open to pursuing a degree. APTA Board certification as a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of teaching experience in an academic setting and demonstrate the capacity to generate a record of scholarship and professional recognition commensurate for appointment and promotion.
