Job Description:
Sam Houston State University invites applications for five full-time, 12-month core faculty positions in its new entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in Conroe, Texas. Help build the program from the ground up: shape the curriculum, stand up the labs, and teach the charter class. Appointments may begin as early as Fall 2026, ahead of the inaugural cohort in Fall 2027. Salary commensurate with education and experience. All positions are open until filled. Assistant/Associate Professor — Tenure-Track (2 positions)
Teaching, scholarship, advisement, and service, with emphasis on building an externally funded research program. Dedicated research space, competitive start-up funds, and protected research time provided. Requires a DPT plus an earned academic doctorate with a research emphasis (PhD, EdD, DSc, ScD, or equivalent) and an active, unencumbered U.S. PT license.
Assistant/Associate Professor; Tenure-Track
Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor — Non-Tenure-Track (2 positions)
Teaching, advisement, scholarship, and service. Requires a DPT, an active, unencumbered U.S. PT license, and full-time post-licensure clinical experience with demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of practice. ABPTS certification and an academic doctorate preferred.
Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor; Non-Tenure
Clinical Assistant Professor — Non-Tenure-Track (1 position)
Teaching, advisement, scholarship, and service, plus administrative support for clinical education. Immediate start available. Requires a DPT, an active, unencumbered U.S. PT license, and full-time post-licensure clinical experience. ABPTS certification and an academic doctorate preferred.
Clinical Assistant Professor; Non-Tenure
Setting:
The program is housed in the 80,000-square-foot Health Professions Building on SHSU's Medical and Health Professions Campus, which opened in February 2026 and also houses the MS in Athletic Training, MS in Dietetics, and MS in Physician Assistant Studies. SHSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine is on the same campus. Conroe is in Montgomery County, about 40 miles north of Houston.
The Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Sam Houston State University is approved by the Texas State University System (TSUS), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and is pending action by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
