Division Chief of Physical Therapy and Program Director, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

New York Medical College (NYMC), in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Division Chief of Physical Therapy and Program Director, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP). This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and visionary physical therapy educator to lead a well-established Doctor of Physical Therapy program within one of the nation's premier academic health sciences institutions.

The next Division Chief and Program Director will have the opportunity to build upon the program's strong reputation for academic excellence, clinical education, and community engagement while shaping its future growth, innovation, and continued success. The Division of Physical Therapy is housed within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and offers a DPT degree and a DPT/MPH (Master of Public Health) Joint Degree. Supported by the extensive resources of New York Medical College, a robust network of clinical affiliates, and a highly collaborative School of Health Sciences and Practice, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in preparing the next generation of physical therapists and advancing the Division's educational, scholarly, and service missions.

New York Medical College, an affiliated institution of Touro University, is located in Westchester County, New York. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Leadership Priorities
The next Division Chief and Program Director will be expected to:
•    Ensure continued excellence and compliance in CAPTE-accredited DPT education.
•    Strengthen faculty development, shared governance, and program operations.
•    Advance student success, licensure outcomes, graduate outcomes, and clinical education quality.
•    Expand clinical, interprofessional, and community partnerships.
•    Support enrollment planning aligned with program quality, capacity, and accreditation expectations.
•    Build connections across physical therapy, public health, rehabilitation science, and health systems improvement.

Responsibilities:
Administration of the Division of Physical Therapy:
•    Supervision and management of the division faculty and staff;
•    Manage the fiscal operations of the department in coordination with the Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and the Dean’s Office;
•    Annual evaluation of faculty and staff performance;
•    Mentoring of division faculty;
•    Ensure college, school, departmental and division policies and procedures are followed;
•    Service on critical school-wide committees such as the Dean’s Leadership Council, Academic Policy Council and the Academic Leadership Team.
Administration and/or oversight of DPT Program, which includes the following:
•    Coordination of the admissions process with the departmental Admissions Committee and Senior Associate Dean Administration and Enrollment;
•    Coordination of class scheduling;
•    Coordination of clinical education with the Director of Clinical Education;
•    Mentoring of students;
•    Development and maintenance of communication system for student performance and professional behaviors;
•    Development and maintenance of programmatic outcomes tracking system, evaluation of the program each semester, and provision of recommendations to the Chair and Dean for improvement;
•    Serve as Program Director of record for CAPTE purposes and maintain ongoing compliance with CAPTE accreditation standards and reporting requirements, including curriculum assessment, student outcomes, faculty qualifications, clinical education, program resources, and continuous program improvement.

Required Qualifications:
•    An earned academic doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Sc. or equivalent in a closely related field);
•    Holds or is eligible to hold the rank of associate professor or professor;
•    A minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, including at least three years as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapist education program;
•    Licensed Physical Therapist (DPT/PT) who is eligible for licensure in the state of New York;
•    Experience in curriculum development and assessment;
•    Experience in management of academic program resources such as budgets, faculty and staff, and facilities;
•    Excellent leadership skills;
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
•    A strong record of teaching and evidence of scholarship;
•    Collaborative reputation and spirit;
•    Demonstrated energy and initiative to grow/expand the physical therapy program;
•    Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Experience in CAPTE accreditation;
•    History of research/scholarship in the field of physical therapy, including presentations and peer-reviewed publications;
•    Previous experience as a DPT program director and/or as a director of clinical education in physical therapy;
•    Recent and relevant clinical experience as a practicing physical therapist;
•    Evidence of leadership in a professional physical therapy organization at a state or national level.

About the PT Division:
The Physical Therapy Division, part of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at NYMC, prepares future physical therapists through a community-oriented, service-based approach that integrates health sciences, public health, and clinical practice. The Division offers both a DPT program and a DPT/MPH Joint Degree, supported by a robust network of local and national clinical affiliates and the extensive resources of an academic medical center.

The three-year, full-time, in-person DPT program emphasizes interactive, case-based learning, simulation experiences, and four full-time clinical education placements at hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other health care facilities. Students benefit from expert faculty, 24-hour access to anatomy and clinical laboratories, collaborative research opportunities, and clinical training at premier institutions, including Westchester Medical Center and Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.

The DPT/MPH Joint Degree prepares graduates to navigate the complexities of today's health care system by combining physical therapy education with public health principles.
