The Department of Physical Therapy at LSUHS is seeking applicants to an open faculty position in our entry-level DPT program at LSU Health Shreveport https://www.lsuhsc.edu/shv/CareerOpportunities/Home/Detail/5617

 

This position is not posted for any specific content area of teaching because of our breadth and depth in faculty resources; there is some flexibility depending on the candidate’s expressed interest and expertise. But, the courses we currently have mapped out could include the following: Physiological Adaptations to Exercise and Nutrition (basically an exercise phys course), Research V (capstone presentations), Prosthetics and Orthotics, Research I & Research II (basic understanding of how to read and understand the literature based on introductory statistics, etc.), and Biophysical Agents. We also have a PhD in Rehab Sciences program in which this new faculty member can teach, mentor, and serve on committees, along with a gait lab and developing human performance lab.  https://schoolofalliedhealth.lsuhs.edu/academics/graduate-programs/rehabilitation-science-phd.

This area also houses our residency programs, including our orthopaedic and neuro PT residencies: https://schoolofalliedhealth.lsuhs.edu/academics/post-professional-programs/orthopaedic-physical-therapy-residency. We also have strong relationships with our School of Medicine colleagues in the Departments of Orthopaedics, Neurology, and Neurosurgery, among others, with whom to collaborate. 

 

We have a recently-founded sports fellowship for family practice and primary care physicians which opened a few years ago, and they partner with area high schools and colleges providing game coverage. We are in the process of submitting an AASC to CAPTE to start a hybrid program in Lafayette, LA; however, this posting is for our residential program in Shreveport. Regardless, the department is growing, expanding, and eager to become a regional leader in scholarship and education. 

 

We would love to see a PhD prepared candidate enter on the tenure track. Our school policy is that tenure track faculty are guaranteed a minimum of 25% FTE for scholarship; however, our current tenure track faculty members have 30 – 40% of their FTE dedicated to research and scholarship.
